Agia Napa Monastery

Ayia Napa Monastery is an important medieval monument built in 1500 as a link between catholicism and old beliefs of the Cypriot people – the monastery was built in the old place of worship marked by the cavern situated inside the church. The monastery was dedicated to Virgin Mary, which is connected with the legend concerning the person who discovered the mentioned cavern with the icon presenting Virgin Mary in it. Finding this icon became an important fact for the local catholics who regarded this finding as a miracle. The monastery became a place of  pilgrimage. Thanks to this finding the convent was changed into the temple which serves as the Ecumenical Centre of Conferences.
